Inspirational Quote of the Week:

“In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, brave, hated and scorned. When he succeeds however, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a Patriot.”

River Street paving set for next week

Milling done on River St. in Hoboken – paving set to begin

Asphalt paving is the next step for the River Street resurfacing project downtown. It is supposed to start on Monday – but with the chance for some rain, we’ll see how that affects the timing. Either way, this project is hopefully coming to an end soon. Why Washington Street constantly gets over-looked is mind numbing.

Thank God the asinine jackhammering in the middle of the night quickly got shut down (credit that ear-rattling video a 411 reader sent in!)

Free art lecture at Symposia Books

Gene Wisniewski gives art lecture at Symposia Books in Hoboken

On Sunday, May 20th at 5pm – Author Gene Wisniewski is giving a free talk about art over at Symposia Bookstore (510 Washington St. – about 20 feet from one of the million potholes in Hoboken).

“From the seminar “The Six-Hour Art Major,” this fun, fact-filled talk tells you how to approach a piece of art, and helps you understand what you’re looking at. Features a slide presentation of over 80 artworks as illustrations.”

The event is free – and you can read more about The Six-Hour Art Major here.

411 Note: I’m sure the lecture might be interesting to some, but I subscribe to a very different theory. I either like it or I don’t. And frankly I don’t need anyone to tell me what to think when looking at anything!

Hunger Construction Baked Potato Truck

Hoboken stuffed baked potato truck: Hunger Construction

A very creative new mobile food truck arrived in Hoboken this week. Hunger Construction – “The original stuffed baked potato.”

Owner Aaron Rosenzweig started this unique food truck after having difficulty finding a job after being laid off late last year – and came up with a very novel concept that has no equal in Hoboken: Stuffed Baked Potatoes.

The truck is very clever, with the menu arranged like highway traffic signs. If an item is sold out, a “road closed” sticker is placed over it. You can get your potato (called “cement mixers”) stuffed for breakfast (with eggs), lunch or dinner. Carnivores and Vegetarians are both accommodated.

Since I am a low-carb lifer – I simply just tasted the vegetarian chili (in a cup) which was quite tasty! Overall, I think this truck will do well – because there are very limited places in Hoboken to get a baked potato.

He’s located uptown on Washington Street today – but will be testing the waters in various spots in Hoboken. To connect with him daily – follow his Twitter feed at @hungerconstruct.

Good luck, Aaron!
